This is the ladies in my Small Fusible Art Quilts Class at Jackson, Ms. sponsored by the Mississippi Quilt Assciation.

The first two quilts were made by Patti Moore and Ebba Kellum in a previous class I taught, the other is one I made for an example.

These precious ladies were sooooo anxious to get started.

This is such a fun and easy class.  Here, we are beginning to start our work of art.

This is a picture of our very own President of MQA,  Ms. Jean T.  It was a privilege and an honor to have her in my class.  Such a nice lady, and so talented.

This is Martha, our fashion expert, loved her hat. Martha cut one of her flowers backward and then, being the artist she is, decided to use it anyway and it looked beautiful.

This is Carol. The further she worked the more individualistic she became.  I had told them to use their own ideas.

This lady is Isabel. Very involved in her work and the harder she worked, the more beautiful it became.

This is Stephanie. She and Diane below, seem to have a lot of funny stuff going on, along with fussing with each other all the time.  If I didn't know better, I would have thought them to be sisters.

This is Diane.  Friend of Stephanie.  Even with all the fun they were having, both their quilters turned out beautiful

This lady is Barbara.  She had brought a Civil War Quilt with her to class, that she had made.  It was gorgeous, and so was her Art Quilt.
Jean is placing patterns on her background comparing which looks best and where.

Barbara is almost complete with hers.

Martha doing some fusing.

Stephanie placing flowers, etc on her background.

WOW, Isabel is almost finished.

Look how beautiful and different Jean's turned out.  Great job Presz!

This one is the one while she was pressing, the center of one of the little flowers slipped and it became a cone flower.  Great job Diane.

Just look at you Stephanie, and you thought you could not do it.  You did and it is gorgeous.

Barbara, it turned out beautiful.  would love to have a picture of it after you do the shading with the pens.

Just look at that, it is lovely and you stepped right out of the box and put some of your own ideas into it.  Love it!

What can I say it is perfect Carol.  It looks so good. Now select a border to emphasize any color you want to bring out in your quilt.

Oh Isabel, that border just really brings out everything.  You should be truly proud and happy about this one.

Carol looking at design and placement on a students quilt.
Show and Tell Time. I could not have been prouder than if you were my own girls.  They all look sooooo beautiful!!                 I enjoyed teaching this class to all of you so very much.  Thank you to all of you for having me.                  Sending my love to you!

Small Arts Quilt Class I will be teaching in Jackson, Ms

I will be teaching a class on this Small Arts Quilt for Mississippi Quilters Association in Jackson, MS on June 1st, 2013. Students will be encouraged to add anything they wish to their Art Quilt, making it uniquely their own.                                                                                   Each quarter the MQA holds a gathering in some town in Mississippi.  This one is called the June Gathering.  Members from all over come to gather and talk about quilts, take classes, show and tell, programs, bed turnings, door prizes and just have a glorious time.  This is a 1 and 1/2 day event.  If you are a quilter, you will not want to miss it.
This is the pattern we will be using in the class.

This beautiful Art Quilt was made by Betty J. Norton, Vernon, Al.  Betty did a beautiful job on this small Art Quilt.  Note her shadow effects on the large pink f;lower.

Made by Polly S. Mixon of Beaverton, Al.  Polly has added a little extra to her Art Quilt, ie. The butterfly on the flower and an extra limb.  Good Job Polly.

The Ultimate Quilt Guild Challenge

Our guild, Possum Town Quilters Guild, of Columbus, Ms decided to enter the AQS Ultimate Guild Challenge for 2013. The committee this year selected as our theme, Tennessee Williams, the Playwriter, since he was from Mississippi. We each drew cards which had a play, book or short story on it and we were to make a quilt a specified size depicting what was on the card.  The one I drew was"Small Craft Warning".  Short play taking place in a seaside Bar in a small shoreline town. As seen below,  My entry.

These are some of the possums of the Possum Town Quilters Guild.  Beautiful, big hearted ladies

Some of the quilt entries are behind these ladies.

This is an Art Quilt I made to honor our daughter Lanita who fought brain cancer (Glioblastoma) for just over 3 years after being diagnosed and told she had 8 months.  The picture depicts her strength and determination to live.  The dragon, the cancer that she had to fight and tame.  The chapel, her church where she went to worship and find solace.  The doves flying above represents the peace she found at her church.  The flowers, she always had a love for flowers.  Look closely and you will see her guardian angel in the air hovering above her right shoulder, left to you, the same angel who looked over her and helped her through this whole ordeal.  She collected Angels and had them all over her house.  She loved her God and also most everyone she met, never met a stranger.  I love her and miss her so very much.

This picture was made of her about a year ago
and through it all she never asked why me Lord. She was such a precious person and hard worker.  Owned and managed five convienient stores.  She and husband, who was a wonderful care giver, had three children, one daughter married and lives Atlanta, Ga. One son who is CEO of an Oil Company and one daughter who is a Hair Designer and Makeup Artist and will be getting married May 18th of this year and is so effected because her mom will not be there for her wedding.   I have waited a while to put this on my blog, however most of my friends and family are already aware of all this.  I wish you and your family well and hope you will go to the top of the page and join my blog.

My quilt "Brother Against Brother" hanging in the Pigeon Forge Quilt show Last month.

Quilt hanging in the Show with its Blue Ribbon attached on the right side, Won for Best Interpretation of Theme. I was shocked and so very pleased.

The faces of war and hate.  What a wasted loss of lives on both sides and so unnecessary.

Al Fiber Arts and quilt show

The Alabama Fiber Arts and Quilt Festival was held during March this year in Montgomery, Al.  I entered a couple of my quilts this year and won an "Honorable Mention" on one of them.

Governor Bentley's wife, First Lady Diane Bentley was there and presented me the certificate.  I was sooo honored to meet her.  Love this sweet lady.

This is the quilt for which I won the ribbon.  Did you know that Lady Diane is an avid quilter?  Her goal is to get a quilt to all the foster children within the State of Alabama for them to have something to call their own.  She has asked the Quilt Guilds in Alabama to help her accomplish this goal.  Our Wanna' Bee Quilt Group in Vernon  is more than happy to help her .
Also sent this Elvis Wall Hanging to be in the show.  It is called "Swing Down Sweet Chariot"

The show was in the Old Alabama Town.  It is a park where old, old buildings have been brought in and restored to original.  It is a town in itself, grocery store, school, church, and everything else.  i am pretending to play the piano here in the church.

People are in period dress.  This is a weaver and tells you all about how it use to be and how they would spin the yarn and then weave the cloth.  Very knowledgeable.  The entire town was very interesting.  We were killing time before the Reception for the winners in the show.

Our sovereign State Capitol building and my husband climbing the steps in the front of it.

We looked around inside and found these pictures of Alabama Fallen Heroes. So sad to see this.
This entire huge room was filled with things like these quilts.  There were blocks added to these quilts making them larger with each block added.  They are to honor Organ Donors and even the Recipients of the Organs.  The family makes a block in honor, or the recipient, or family of the recipient of that person makes a block and adds to the quilt, and there were many of these quilts.

Some of these quilts were huge.

These are only some of the quilts hanging.
Are you an Organ Donor?  I am.

Who knows?  Maybe someone will make a quilt block for me and add it to one of these wonderful quilts.

These are pansies outside the capitol building.

Just one of the many paintings on the walls.
Our beautiful capitol!

My first try at fabric dyeing. Updated...

I wanted a pastel piece of Batik fabric, I decided there was no time like the present to try dyeing it myself.  So I dipped my toe into the water, or should I say my fabric.

I thought it turned out really pretty.

Don't know why this pic turned out with the lines in it,  It is not in the fabric.

This is different views of the fabric.  It has blues, pinks, greens and just a hint of yellow.  Now, if it just will not fade out when I wash it and I think I will do that before I use it.
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
The color held in washing and drying, now I just need to do some more of it.
So happy about this.
